Blog Post B3- Animation
I thought it was quite beautiful to show the connection between the mother, butterfly, and the daughter, as they stayed connected with one another, depicting that through the umbilical cord. Having her child ripped away was very dramatic but definitely got the point across of the pain she was facing. Even though she made the choice to destroy herself and no longer want to live, I thought the making of a butterfly to show her true self and freedom was a good representation of what she has the potential to be.
I thought it was interesting how the sailor returns with multiple other children and another girl in a car, making it seem like he's done this before and has broken up many families and hearts. I liked the playful feel that I got from the mother and child when they each took turns using each other as if they were kites. This showed me that they had a deeper connection and didn't need the sailor to ever return. It does however make me wonder if the mother would be just as upset if the sailor never returned, but she did get to keep her child.
